Father of boy who fell off Ferris wheel may take legal action against operator

Borneo Post Online, 31 December 2013

GEORGE TOWN: The father of a six-year-old boy who slipped into a coma after falling off a Ferris wheel (Euro Wheel) at the Penang festival in Sungai Nibong on Sunday wants to take legal action against the company that manages the Euro Wheel at the fair.

Abu Kassim Yaacob, 41, said he was disappointed with the management for failing to offer an explanation for the mishap.

“I do not know how my fell from the wheel and when I asked the operators of the wheel, I was not given a clear answer. They said they were not aware that my son was in the hospital,” he told reporters at the Penang Hospital, here yesterday.

However, his main concern now was the condition of his son, Mohamad Khairul Naimme, 6, who was said to have regained conscious.

Abu Kassim, a shopkeeper at the fair, had lodged a police report a few hours after the incident when notified that his son had fell off the Ferris wheel on Sunday.

He said his son was admitted to the Penang Hospital yesterday after slipping into a coma with internal injuries, including to his kidney and lungs.

Meanwhile, the Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) director Mohd Anuar Embi when contacted said an investigation would be carried out immediately.

“We are investigating the incident from various angles,” he said. — Bernama
