Investigation papers on ramp collapse ready soon — Dosh

BUTTERWORTH: The investigation papers on the collapse of the Second Penang Bridge ramp is expected to be ready in a week and will be submitted to the legal adviser for further action, Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (Dosh) director Anuar Embi said yesterday.
He said investigation on the incident, which occurred on June 6, was progressing smoothly.
“We are now in the final stage of preparing the investigation papers. When completed it will be submitted to the legal adviser and the Human Resource Ministry for further action.
“Actually, we have been monitoring works carried out there and after the incident, Dosh has tightened safety measures by directing the five contractors under Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) to send a weekly report on the safety and health condition at their workplace,” he added.
He told this to reporters after opening a seminar by the Northern Region Occupational Safety and Health Association (NRG-SHE) here yesterday.
In the incident, the concrete ramp at the exit of the Second Penang Bridge which was under construction at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway collapsed at about 6.40pm.
The body of Tajudin Zainal Abidin, 45, who was trapped in a Perodua Kelisa car under the rubble was extricated about 8.45pm the following day.
Three people were injured in the incident, two of them foreign workers, identified as Slamat, 36, from Indonesia, and Tin Maung Iwin, 39, from Myanmar.
The other is a local, Thilasheni Rajendran, 24, who injured her hand in the incident. Anuar said there were about 450 construction areas registered under Dosh in Penang, where between 50 and 70 of them were categorised as high-risk. — Bernama
