DBKU accords priority to safety and health at workplace, says commissioner

KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) pays due attention to occupational safety and health of its employees encompassing all aspects of the city’s monitoring and maintenance development activities.
This is partly aimed to instill efficient and quality work culture among DBKU employees. It is also to prevent any untoward accident at workplace.
In fact under Section 30, Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1994 (Act 514), DBKU has set up an Occupational Safety and Health Committee to help monitor and enhance all aspects of occupational safety and health at workplace.
DBKU commissioner Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said the formation of the committee was crucial to ensure safety of employees.
Speaking at a ceremony in support of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work at the DBKU Auditorium, Bukit Siol here yesterday, he expressed hope that council’s employess would always be receptive to occupational safety and health at their workplace.
“DBKU employees must always be discipline and give due importance to safety and health aspects in discharging their respective duties,” he added.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which is celebrated worldwide on April 28 every year, started in 2003 by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Safety and Health In The Use Of Chemical at Workplace”
It is an annual affair under the National Council for Safety and Health at Work (KKP).
Meanwhile, Abdul Wahap said under its Occupational Safety and Health Committee, DBKU had launched OSH Eyes, as part of measures to ensure DBKU employees would be more sensitive to their surrounding to prevent any untoward incident.
