KUCHING: Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak will launch a state-wide operation codenamed ‘Ops Takung’ to make sure that construction sites are aedes-free.
In revealing this yesterday, its director Ir Mohd Hatta Zakaria said the operation will be conducted jointly with the State Health Department, and is expected to start sometime next week.
“Inspecting construction sites is our routine activity but this time it will be specifically on anti-dengue campaign along with the State Health authority,” he said.
He disclosed this when opening the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) Seminar on Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Industry here yesterday.
“As we all know dengue has become a nationwide issue and because of that the government has issued directive to all states to help fight dengue and on our part we will soon conduct Ops Takung together with the State Health Department.
“We will start the operation probably by next week and through this operation we want to make sure that contractors not only observe occupational safety at the workplace but should also prevent creating environments for mosquitoes to breed,” he said.
He also said that recently the department launched an operation called ‘Ops Runtuh’ in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu in the wake of a few reported accidents caused by collapsing scaffoldings in the state.
“In the operation we inspected their scaffoldings and other temporary structures to ensure that the players in construction industry strictly comply with all relevant safety measures to avoid the recurrence of occupational accidents at the workplace,” he said.
