DOSH needs more information to take action
The Star Online, 25 April 2013
WE REFER to the letter “Not So Fast Service From DOSH” (The Star, April 8) by “Frustrated lmporter” of Subang, Selangor.
The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is unable to conduct a thorough investigation into the writer’s complaint since there is insufficient information.
The writer is most welcome to contact the Director of Industrial Safety Division at our office in Putrajaya and furnish him with more details so that the department can carry out further investigations into the complaint.
All locally made and imported certificated machinery need to obtain design approval from the department before they are allowed to be operated.
The purpose of the design approval is to ensure the safety of the certificated machinery and to prevent accidents.
The design must comply with the requirements in the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and its regulations.
The department has never set any conditions which require the design approval application for certificated machinery to be carried out through a third party.
The design approval application can be submitted only via online by any party in accordance with the application guidelines set by the department.
Each of the design approval applications will be processed and reviewed by a designated officer. The applicants can view the current status of their application via the online system.
The department hopes the above explanation can enlighten “Frustrated Importer” and members of the public. Please contact the Director of Industrial Safety Division at 03-8886 5077 for further clarification.
