IPOH: A 60-year-old construction worker drowned in a mining pool in Malim Nawar here when the excavator he was driving slipped into the waters.
Loo Yok Ben’s body was discovered at about 5pm yesterday – about seven hours after the freak incident.
Kampar Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Yamin Naib said the victim was operating the excavator on the banks of the Lombong Itik Kongsi 8 mining pool when the ground underneath the vehicle gave way.
This resulted in the victim and the machine plunging into the 6m-deep pool.
Yamin said Loo’s co-workers went out to buy food at the time of the incident. Loo was left alone at the site.
He said a security guard at the site alerted the department after failing to locate Loo and the machine.
The body has been sent to the Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem.
Six days ago, a 46-year-old man drowned at the same mining pool after the boat he was in sank as he was fishing with two others.
