LANGKAWI: An excavator operator was killed on the spot after he was crushed by the heavy machinery in Kampung Bukit Masjid, Kedawang here yesterday evening.
In the 4pm incident, Mohd Besri Said, 36, from Kampung Ranggut, Padang Matsirat died from severe head injuries.
An eyewitness who only wished to be identified as Zulkifli, in his 40s, said the victim was carrying out road maintenance works at a slope when he lost control of the excavator.
"It happened so fast, the excavator tilted and crashed to its right, crushing the victim.
"I rushed to the scene but there was nothing I could do as the victim died instantly from severe head injury," he said.
Langkawi district police chief Superintendent Harrith Kam Abdullah confirmed the incident.
He said the body was sent to Langkawi Hospital for a post-morterm before being claimed by his family members for burial.
