Hospitality industry urged to implement OSH

KUALA LUMPUR: The hospitality industry involving hotels, food establishment, tour operators and relevant local authorities have been urged to implement the concept of ‘Occupational Safety and Health’(OSH).
Chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye in a statement said it was time for all those involved in the hospitality industry to take a serious view of the frequent occurence of accidents and fatalities involving tourists and the public.
“OSH plays an important role in the hospitality and tourism industry to prevent accidents and injuries. If OSH is not practised, it can lead to accidents resulting in injuries or even death,” he said.
The latest incidents occurred in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan where a picknicker died following serious injuries after being hit by a banana boat.
Following the fatal accident, the Negeri Sembilan state government suspended all water recreational activities in Port Dickson for three months pending a full study on all safety aspects of water acitvities there.
Lee said the procedure and emergency respond team as well as first aider facilities were necessary for emergency to resorts or hotels providing guests outdoor activies such as climbing, water rafting, flying fox and bungee jumping. – Bernama
