KOTA TINGGI: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is investigating an incident where two workers were injured when a pipe spool collapsed at the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang yesterday.
DOSH director-general Datuk Mokhtar Musri said an investigation on the incident was being completed and he did not discount a possibility of stern action being taken against the contractor responsible for pipe works in that Section of RAPID.
"The department will carry out stern action against the project's contractor if there was any violation of safety regulation or work procedure, which compromised safety at the site.
"The project involves heavy duty equipment and material. All safety procedures must be adhered to avoid any work hazard or risk to workers," said Mokhtar when contacted.
The incident at 8.50am yesterday occured at Level Four of the RAPID complex. Photos of the incident were shared on Facebook.
A health, safety and environmental (HSE) alert notice on the incident was also shared on the social media platform. The notice said that a pipe spool at RFCC2, RCK 1110, Level 4 had dropped onto scaffold platform and that two workers injured in the incident.
The notice claimed that the area has been cordoned off and stand down was initiated.
