Implementation of Code of Practice on Prevention and Management of HIV / AIDS at the workplace
Code of Practice on the Prevention and Management of HIV / AIDS at the workplace has been provided by the department in collaboration with representatives from various government agencies, NGOs and international organizations. The purpose of this code of practice is to reduce the spread of HIV / AIDS and to guide employers and employees in managing issues related to HIV / AIDS in the workplace. During the year 2010, a total of 11 employers were monitored to promote adherence to the Code of Practice on the Prevention and Management of HIV / AIDS in the workplace. The monitored employers agreed to implement this program to create a work environment free of drugs and to give a positive view to their customers that the industry does not have any issues related to tackling HIV / AIDS at the workplace and to solve the problem of employees who have contracted HIV / AIDS without discrimination. Special projects which were implemented at the state level will provide a positive impact on the issue of HIV / AIDS in the workplace and is expected to reduce the risk or potential loss of staff and skilled labor due to prolonged illness, absenteeism, and death, which will affect productivity, job benefits, occupational safety and health (OSH), the cost of production and morale at work.
