KUCHING: Sarawak Energy was announced winner of the National Workers’ Safety & Health Awards 2012 (Electricity Utilities category) at a glittering ceremony held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) recently.
The award was received by senior manager (Safety) Ngu Piew Choo and station manager (Batang Ai Power Station) Encharang Ngtingih.
A total of 122 companies competed in 20 categories.
The National Workers Safety & Health Awards is the initiative of the National Council for Workers’ Safety & Health under the purview of the Human Resource Ministry. It aims to give recognition to the organisation, employers and workers in various sectors of the industries for exemplary achievement records in implementing safety and health initiatives.
The award also acts as a platform to measure quality in managing safety and health of workers in the private and government sectors besides acting as a catalyst to instill and inculcate a culture of safe practices.
Batang Ai Power Station, Sarawak Energy’s first hydropower station in the state is the first organisation in Sarawak to win this coveted award.
The awards were presented by Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam.
