The Minister of Human Resources had made an announcement in August 1997 which requires all crane operators to be registered with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) before they are allowed to operate any cranes. The types of cranes meant in this are tower cranes, mobile cranes and crawler cranes.
Under provision 26(1) of the Factories and Machinery (Notification, Certificate of Fitness And Inspection) Regulations, 1970, The Department will enforce this directive which stipulate that all of the said cranes must be operated by certificated operators.
Crane operator is required to attend a Crane Operator course at training centre recognized by DOSH. This is to ensure that the crane operator has a high level of skill and able to handle the crane correctly and in a safe manner. Every training centre planning to run the said course is required to obtain accreditation from this department beforehand.
