GEORGE TOWN: An aluminium frame fitter fell to his death from the 24th floor of an apartment under construction in Gelugor here.
Nineteen-year-old Loh Zhi Hao plunged to his death from the balcony of a unit at the construction site.
His colleague, a Myanmar national, immediately alerted the others after witnessing yesterday’s 10am tragedy. Loh’s body was found on the fourth floor.
Initial investigation revealed that Loh did not put on a safety harness while carrying out the task.
It is learnt that Loh, from Gurun, Kedah, had only come to Penang 10 months ago to work with an aluminium glassworks company in Bayan Lepas.
His mother Ng Bee Kim, 52, said Loh had just given her almost one-third of his bonus during Chinese New Year last month.
“Last year, he gave me a bracelet for Mother’s Day. I have been wearing it since.
“He even told me he wanted to get married at the age of 25.
“He was a good and filial son. Life is now meaningless without him,” said Ng at the Penang Hospital.
She added that she had single-handedly raised Loh after his father passed away when he was one.
George Town deputy OCPD Supt Ismail Toh Idris said foul play had been ruled out for now.
