KUCHING: The Works Ministry is still waiting for the report on the cause of the fire at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here, which caused the death of one worker last February 15.
Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said today although he was informed that the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) had completed their investigations, they had yet to submit it.
"So far, no decision (on the cause of fire) has been made and we are waiting for DOSH to inform us the outcome of the investigation and when the repairs and reconstruction can be done," he told reporters after opening the 1Malaysia Youth Carnival here.
He said, for the moment, construction work on the auditorium of the SGH clinical research centre building had been stopped and would only continue after approval had been obtained from DOSH.
"We only implement whatever action that needs to be done (after obtaining the report on the cause of the fire). If it was caused by the contractor, action will also be taken (against him)," he said.
In the incident, a construction worker known as Teguh Prayttono, 35, from Indonesia, died, believed to be due to smoke inhalation.
Teguh was believed to be working on the ceiling of the auditorium when the incident occurred while three of his friends, who were in the midst of welding work at the same location, managed to escape. Before the incident, the RM35-million project was expected to be completed last month. -- BERNAMA
