Explosion prevention experts set up shop in Shah Alam

GERMAN company R.Stahl, a leading provider of explosion protected products for hazardous locations, officially opened their regional operations in Shah Alam last week.

R. Stahl Engineering and Manufacturing Sdn Bhd marks the company’s expansion to provide more integration in quality, standards and solutions among its Asian offices since its first entrance to the market 20 years ago.

“We were truly excited to establish our Malaysian facility in January this year,” said R. Stahl’s Asia Pacific vice-president Alain Schellings.

“This facility is part of a transformation plan to positively manage our client’s expectations in terms of production optimisation and importing expertise from Germany.

“Through this facility, we are targeting to double our capacity within a year and deliver safer and more efficient solutions to our clients in oil and gas, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and biotechnology industries, where safety is the utmost importance,” he said.

R. Stahl’s international sales director, Jonathan Peaurt, said the company was expecting 30% growth this year for South-East Asia, having seen a good start in the first quarter of the year.

The 24,000sq ft facility operates according to German and European quality control regulations.

Schellings explained that Malaysia, which has a pool of engineering talent available, is positioning itself as a favourable destination for international imports and investments.

“In terms of business communications, the English language is understood well here, opening up the potential economically,” he said.

Guests at the launch of the new facility included the German Embassy’s counsellor for economic, commercial and environmental affairs, Dr Wolfram Spelten and Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce general manager, Thomas Brandt.

During the event, members of the media and guests were given a tour of the factory.

The company, which operates internationally, has a range of products covering explosion protected switches, pushbuttons and light fittings through controls to complex systems, among other things.
